Posts about cardiac syndrome X written by Carolyn Thomas. by Carolyn Thomas ♥ @HeartSisters. Turns out that the kind of heart attack that I had (caused by a 95% blockage in the big left anterior descending coronary artery) – the so-called widowmaker heart attack – may actually be relatively uncommon in women.

Cardiac syndrome X (CSX), defined as typical exertional chest pain, a positive response to stress testing, and normal coronary arteriograms, encompasses different pathogenic subgroups. Both cardiac and non-cardiac mechanisms have been suggested to play a pathogenic role, and it has been shown that the syndrome is associated with myocardial ischaemia in at least a proportion of patients.

Microvascular angina (MVA) is an etiologic mechanism in women with cardiac symptoms and abnormal vascular dysfunction without obstructive coronary artery disease, although not all patients with MVA show detectable ischemia. It is treated by drugs that either improve supply (vasodilatory) or reduce demand (reduce heart rate or bp). These include nitrates, calcium channel blockers, and beta blockers.

Syndrome x cardiac

Cardiac syndrome X is a heterogeneous entity, both clinically and pathophysiologically, encompassing a variety of pathogenic mechanisms.

Patients with cardiac syndrome X (typical chest pain and normal coronary arteriograms) represent a heterogeneous syndrome, which encompasses different pathogenic mechanisms. Although symptoms in most patients with cardiac syndrome X are non-cardiac, a sizable proportion of them have angina pectoris due to transient myocardial ischemia. Cardiac syndrome X is a historic term for microvascular angina, angina (chest pain) with signs associated with decreased blood flow to heart tissue but with normal coronary arteries.

Syndrome x cardiac

Cardiac syndrome X (CSX) is anginal chest pain with coronary artery disease involving the smallest arteries, but with normal large coronary arteries. Because of this, it is sometimes referred to as “microvascular angina”. Syndrome X is difficult to diagnose; usually it is done by exclusion of other illnesses.
